One of our training trikes Poisk-6T has been hijacked and crashed E-mail
Jul 14, 2006

One of our training ultralight trikes Poisk-6T has been hijacked by an unknown idiot at around midnight on July 13, 2006 from the hangar at King George Airfield near White Rock, BC. The hijacker was able to take off and fly for about two kilometres until he or she has crashed into the woods in otherwise densely populated area in the south of Surrey, BC. The neighbours said the aircraft was powered when it hit the trees and sank into the woods. The police have not found anyone in the aircraft, they have captured a suspect who was taken to the hospital and later released.

The Poisk trikes are built in Russia for the industrial use and are known for the extremely rugged frame construction. Perhaps this is what saved the life of the hijacker as the frame has absorbed the force of the impact and has not disintegrated. The trike was equipped with a ballistic recovery system, which was not even armed by the hijacker. If you have any information that may help in investigation, please contact Open Skies Aviation.

Despite the loss of the aircraft, the incident has not affected our flight training schedule. As always our fleet of reliable Poisk trikes welcomes our existing and new customers to discover the magic of the open-cockpit flight!
