We feel extremely proud when our students praise the quality of our flight training. One of the best testimonials to our efforts is when they invite their friends and families to the airfield to witness their first solo flight. Becoming a pilot is a tough commitment; it takes dedication, persistence, courage and other admirable qualities. No wonder that we highly respect each and every one of our students – people who dare to challenge themselves with one of the most rewarding goal – the freedom of flight. With this article we continue publishing short stories about you – our students, because we feel you deserve to be recognized. ![]() Marius is in control of a trike This month's featured student, Marius P, is passionate about flying. According to Mikhail Gavrikov, our flight instructor – “Marius is a quick learner, who clearly demonstrated in his first dual instruction flight that he is a natural-born trike pilot”.
Victor: A few words about yourself Marius Marius: I'm a first responder for the government and I deal with all sorts of emergencies that are related to city infrastracture and city property. Everyday is full of new experiences which is very much what triking is like for me. Victor: Why trikes? Marius: I love every flight I go up on and no two are ever the same. I have tried fixed wing planes and I sugest trying both if you are unsure of which to chose between a plane and a trike. For me, triking is an experience in itself and nothing like a plane. I have not found anything that beats the feeling of being in a trike flying around yet. Victor: Why Open Skies Aviation? Marius: I fell in love with trikes in Europe on a tour through Hungary, the day i took a discovery flight over a big local lake. looked into it as soon as i got back home but to my dissapointment there was nobody local that flew trikes. I couldn't find anyone in the entire BC. I went to Washington a few times to get my flying fix but it soon turned to be a hassle for so little flying. So I gave up for a bit but the thoughts of flying trikes never went away. A while later I was absolutely stoked to find out someone local has started a school. Open Skies Aviation is the first and only school in BC and you are in good hands there. They are able to answer all your questions, give you straight up, honest advice and they can help with building any trike and configuration you will choose. Don't forget the $50 discovery flight... it will serve as a thousand words anyone could put down on paper. Victor: How would you describe your flight training experience? Marius: My flight training experience has been awesome. Some of the best memories of my life have been on some of these flights .You will only find out what I am talking about if you decide to check it out. These guys are patient, you will not feel rushed. I have always felt safe and comfortable. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!" As of now, Marius is very close to his first solo. There were some ups and downs during the course of the training - you know what we mean, Marius ☺ But despite all the challenges, you never gave up and always worked hard to master your skills. We wish you a successful solo and we’re looking forward to spending many hours of exploring the skies of majestic British Columbia together with you, our new trike buddy. ![]() My flight training experience has been awesome "I have felt safe and comfortable on every flight during my training.
